MARINELAND RECEIVES "REMARKABLE COASTAL PLACE" DESIGNATION

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Department of Community Affairs today announced the selection of the town of Marineland as Florida's first "Remarkable Coastal Place."  With this designation, Marineland will receive a $25,000 planning grant and technical assistance from the Department's Florida Coastal Management Program.

"We are pleased to be a planning partner in Marineland's effort to become a major marine science research, education and nature tourism center," said Department of Community Affairs Secretary Steve Seibert.

"Remarkable Coastal Places" is a grant and technical assistance program that encourages communities to identify places with exceptional cultural, historical and ecological values.  Its aim is to help unique communities apply the planning and management tools necessary to preserve and protect those values.

"This program has been tailor-made to help conserve the many assets of coastal communities like "Marineland," added Secretary Seibert.
